Linaria vulgaris - Mill. One report suggests that the plant might be slightly toxic[76]. Hedgerows, by ditches, on dry banks and roadside verges. It is especially abundant in sandy and gravelly soils, and in chalk and limestone districts, and avoids acid soils[4, 7].

Linaria plants may need watering during the growing season. Water when the soil is dry about 5cm below the surface (test this by scratching away a little soil with your finger). Water deeply in the early morning or late afternoon. Avoid watering the leaves of plants to avoid fungal diseases.

They are the first annuals to bloom in the spring, and their ability to withstand cold temperatures, thrive with minimal care, and produce abundantly for weeks from a single sowing make them an indispensable addition to the cut flower garden.

Ecological Threat: Linaria vulgaris is an aggressive invader, disturbing communities from rangelands to riparian communities to roadside and graded areas. It has been listed on the Noxious Weed list for 30 years in over ten states.
