Panicle (4)8–13(18) cm long, narrowly ovate to pyramidal, sometimes ± contracted; branches in a succession of whorls, these progressively shorter upwards, glabrous, with inconspicuous long linear glands, the spikelets in dense clusters at the tips of the primary branches.
The native range of this species is Congo to South Sudan and S. Africa, Madagascar. It is a perennial and grows primarily in the seasonally dry tropical biome.
