The plant is well-known for diuretic, anthelmintic, respiratory problems, rheumatoid arthritis, to cure scabies and other skin infections (Amarnath et al., 2014; Mahomoodally and Beeharry, 2013). The leaf juice acts as an emetic for children.

These are “catnip,” which cat lovers are familiar with or may have used before, and another herb called “Acalypha indica,” which has similar properties to catnip in that it can stimulate cats to feel “high” and relieve stress.

Ingestion of Acalypha indica may lead to hemolysis in people suffering from glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency. Acalyphin is used as a substitute for ipecacuanha, a vermifuge, expectorant and emetic. Acalypha indica leaves are used in the traditional medicine of India as a jaundice remedy.

Medicinal uses Acalypha Wilkesiana can be consumed and used to treat many illnesses like diarrhoea, infection, fever, ulcer, etc. Recent studies have shown that the plant has curative powers and can be used in medicines. The Acalypha Wilkesiana plant has antibacterial, antifungal, and antimicrobial properties.
