Root bark and root powder are utilized for looseness of the bowels and diarrhea. Root and root bark are dried in the shade and squashed into fine powder (El Ghazali et al. 1997). This 5–10 gram powder boiled in water and taken orally for 3–4 days for dysentery remedy.

Growth Habit: Evergreen (in Phoenix), woody, perennial shrub, moderate growth rate to 12-feet tall with similar spread.

Medicine: Leaves are used as an arbortifacient in Burkina Faso. Roots and leaves help in the treatment of pain in the intercostal area. Roots part of a remedy for chest complaints and colds, for gonorrhoea and female fertility, in poultice form they treat pustulous skin lesions, and they can be taken as tranquilizers.

It is a shrub or small tree growing to 8 m tall. The leaves are broadly rounded, 5–18 cm long and broad, with a petiole 1–1.5 cm long.
