| This is Utricularia subulata : a small, yellow flowered plant, wich either live solitary, or build large colonies |
| if it have the opportunity to find a large and open space without other competitors. |

| This plant has another particularity : it is yellow flowered, but it also build cleistogamous flowers. |

| Cleistogamous flowers are flowers wich have no petals. They produce seeds, they are self-fertile. |
| These kind of flowers are produced before the flowers with corolla, as if the plant |
| "make shure" that some seeds have been produced, and thus, it's survival is now garantied. |

| Most of the plants I have found grow solitary. Big colonies are rare. |
| There are two type of colonies : associated with other species, or not. |

| If the plants share the biotope with other species, then they will not occupy the same place in the local |
| geography of the biotope ; for example, they will replace a species in the deepest parts of a flooded area. |

| Here they share the place with U.pusila, and at this stage of the season, we see cleistogamous flowers ; |
| U.pusila grow on the side of the little depression, while U.subulata grow 20cm from the "shoreline" : |

| The leaves and the yellow flowers are U.pusila, |
| the cleistogamous flowers of U.subulata are designed by the arrows : |

| If U.subulata grow alone, with good conditions, wich are place to grow and a minimum of water, |
| then they will build a spectacular mass of flowers wich will grow 30cm one from another : |
| the colony pictured here covers many houndreds sq.meters of savana ! |

| U.subulata grow in inoundated places only, and the amount of plants will increase with the deepness |
| of the water ; this plant also love a full sun situation, this is why the biotope must be free of big bushes |
| of grass or other plants or competitors. |
