Description:
Aquatic or marshy annual herbs; culms 10-25 cm high, erect or decumbent; nodes bearded. Leaves 2-5 x 0.2-0.5 cm, ovate-lanceolate, glabrous, rounded at base; sheath keeled, glabrous, ligule a row of hairs. Panicle 2-7 cm long, contracted, cylindrical, glabrous. Spikelets similar, 2 x 1 mm, ovate, glabrous. Glumes similar, ovate-orbicular, 3-nerved; florets 2; lower bisexual, upper barren or with a rudimentary ovary; first lemma 2 x 1 mm, ovate, acute, hyaline; palea 2 x 1 mm elliptic. Stamens 3, free. Ovary elliptic; stigma plumose. Upper floret exserted.
