Found in Zaire, Angola, Zambia, Malawi and Botswana in plateau grasslands and montane dry grasslands in sandy soils at elevations of 1500 to 2300 meters as a mini-miniature to medium sized, cool to cold growing terrestrial with underground, onion shaped tubers forming short chains giving rise to several, ligulate leaves that blooms in the spring on a 2 to 36" [5 to 45 cm] long, rather laxly to 12 flowered inflorescence arisinf before the new leaves and has 3 scarious bracts
