Found in Burundi, Zaire, Tanzania, Malawi, Angola, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Cape Province and Natal South Africa in wet dambos and marshes at elevations of 1100 to 1300 meters as a medium to just large sized, cool growing terrestrial with a subteranean, fleshy, elongate rhizome giving rise to 4 to 5, in a fan, linear, ribbed, acute leaves that are often only partly develped at blooming, occuring in the late spring and early summer on an erect, laxly 3 to 13 flowered inflorescence with 3 short, acute bracts and lanceolate, acuminate or acute floal bracts and carrying subnutant flowers
