Found in Zaire, Tanzania, Malawi and Zambia in montane grasslands at elevations of 1650 to 2700 meters as a small to large sized, cool to cold growing terrestrial with ellipsoid tubers giving rise to an erect, leafy throughout stem carryin 6 to 10, linear-lanceolate, acute, erect, decreasing in size towards the apex, 1 to 2 lowermost sheathlike leaves that blooms in the spring on an erect, terminal, 1.2 to 9.6" [3 to 24 cm] long, few to many flowered inflorescence
