Distribution:  The plants occur in South Africa in the Gauteng (Traansvaal) and Kwa-Zulu-Natal Provinces.

Description:  The roots are tuberous, up to 10cm in diameter and between 2-7cm in height.  Numerous stems appear from the succulent tuber* roots (these stems and leaves die off during the plants dormant season, late autumn and winter - deciduous). The green leaves are glabrous, slightly waxy, 3cm in length and 1cm wide. *Many growers grow their tuber above the soil, both for show and to help prevent rot.

Flower:  The "Chinese-lantern" flowers are yellow to brown in colour, twin seed-horns appear after successful pollination.

Cultivation:  Soil is well-drained.  Watering for autumn & spring, once every 1 to 2 weeks, once a week in summer, light sprays in winter. 
Propagation:  Seeds and cuttings.
