This member of the Passifloraceae
family was given this name by Hans Schinz in 1892. It is found in
Mozambique,
Eswatini and South Africa, growing in a well drained soil with some
water and some sun. The caudex can grow to 30 centimetres or more,
the vines can reach four and a half meter. The flowers are greenish white.
The name Adenia
is derived from aden, meaning gland, and pertains to the glands
found on leaves of most of the species.
The species name means
'spear-shaped'.
