This member of the Vitaceae
family was given this name by Bernard M. Descoings in 1963. It is
found in Botswana, Eswatini, South Africa, Zimbabwe, growing in a well
drained soil with some water and lots of sun. The caudex can grow to
fifteen centimetres in diameter, the vine up to 60 centimetres or
more in
height. The flowers are from green to yellowish with red tips.
Cyphostemma humile subsp.
dolichopus differs
from Cyphostemma humile subsp. humile by its
dries a darker colour, has scattered often puberulous hairs between
the nerves on the under side of the leaves which are often also
puberulous above, the leaves tend to be broader, the stipules
smaller and the hairs on the pedicels tend to be sparser and longer.
The genera name from the Greek
kyphos; 'tumor' or ,'hump' and stemma; 'garland' or
'crown'. The species name means' of low growth'. |
