This member of the Amaryllidaceae
family was given this name by Ib Friis and Inger Nordal in 1976. It is
found in the south-eastern cape of South Africa, growing in sand or
other well drained soil with some water and some sun. The bulb will
grow to five centimetres in diameter, the leaves to 25 centimetres
length. The flowers are red. The
genera name from doxus meaning 'glory' or 'splendour', and
-puniceus
meaning 'crimson', 'scarlet' or 'purple'.
The species name means 'membrane-like'. |
