All species in the kiwifruit genus (Actinidia) are climbing woody vines (lianas) that are dioecious, with separate staminate (male) and pistillate (female) flowers, usually borne on separate vines. The pistillate Actinidia flower (photo from Guo et al. 2013) in the photos shows multiple stigmas and styles arising from the fused carpels in the ovary (the pistillate flowers do make stamens but lack viable pollen). Each stigma/style provides an avenue for the pollination of the ovules in the locules of one of the fused carpels within the ovary. The stigmas are persistent and visible on ripe fruit.
