October flowers

Post by CoronaCactus »

The heat has not stopped...so why should the plants! 8)

Foxy was back, surveying the area for cacti eatin' intruders...ALL CLEAR! :D
I think he spotted our cat frantically bouncing around in the window :P

Image

Aloe noid #1
Not really sure what this one is, but looks cool and has bloomed atleast 3 times this year already. At one time i thought it may be A. harlana 'Mosaic' ...??
Image
Image
Image
Image

Aloe noid #2
Very small, only 2.5 to 3in in diameter. Grows upwards in stacks, rather than outwards in girth. Probably very common, as it came from a big box store. Thought i took a plant pic...guess not :|
Image

Astrophytum asterias
Image
Image

Astrophytum ornatum
2 weeks ago we removed some large non-cacti plants to make room for..... more cacti of course! This was one of the ones that went in the ground...didn't seem to slow it down any!
Image
Image

Astrophytum myriostigma
I really like the black tipped petals.
Image
Image
Image

Brighamia insignis
Endemic to Hawaii, although i'm not sure if they are on all the islands. I've seen it on 2 of 3 islands i've been on (Maui and the big island) Should be interesting, never seen one bloom before!
It's in a 1gl pot and stands about 16-18inches tall. We have some smaller ones (8-10inches) on the sales tables, but not ready to bloom yet. Not easy to keep healthy in the hot desert sun...they like it cooler and wetter...but we're making a solid go at it!
Image
Image

Ceropegia ampliata
More fun and very odd flowers 8)
Image
Image

Ceropegia armandii
Image
Image

Ceropegia woodii
Image
Image

Coleocephalocereus aureus
Love these little neon green flowers.
Image
Image

Copiapoa hypogaea
I know, been posting alot of repeat Copiapoa's...and while they all kinda look the same, they still have their place 8)
Image

Eriosyce islayensis
(Islaya islayensis)
Image
Image

Eriosyce taltalensis ssp. pausicostata
Almost ready!
Image

Euphorbia viguieri var. ankarafantsiensis
Camera can't really handle the intense color of these flowers.
Image

Euphorbia beharensis var. guillemetii
I can't recall when this plant was NOT in bloom!
Image
Image

Ferocactus hererrae
2 last hoorahs for the season.
Image
Image
Image

Fockea crispa
Funky little star flowers.
Image
Image
Image

Gibbaeum album
I can't seem to get this one to play on my phonograph...it's missing the grooves  :P
Image

Gymnocalycium mihanovichii v. friedrichii
Image

Gymnocalycium stenopleurum
It's trying...A for effort.
Image
Image

Huernia insigniflora
Image

lapidaria margaretae
Image

Lithops lesliei
not red enough to be the red form ;)
Image

Lithops lesliei 'Albinica'
Image
Image

Mammillaria karwinskiana
Didn't seem to like the summer heat, but now that it's cooled off slightly (hey 10F cooler is 10F cooler!)
Image
Image

Mammillaria muehlenpfordtii
Image
Image

Mammillaria polythele inermis
BTW, this plant has produced ripe fruit!! Fingers are crossed it's viable and i can grow it! :?
Image

Matucana haynei
Again, hard for the camera to capture the true colors.
Image
Image

Matucana madisoniorum
I'm gonna start calling these the Pringels plants...red or white, once the start, they just don't stop!
Image
Image
Image

Matucana madisoniorum v. albiflora
Image
Image
Image

Matucana madisoniorum ssp. pujupati
Image
Image

Melocactus violaceus
These produce 5 fruit for every one flower! it's crazy...i keep picking them and they keep growing them!
Image

Monadenium montanum
Image

Opuntia dillenii
YES! an Opuntia flower in October!! (actually i think it was the last few days of September)
Image
Image
Image

Pachypodium saundersii
(P. lealii ssp. saundersii)
This is one of our sales plants, seems to be getting started before the collection plants...hopefully they coordinate and bloom together, so i get to pollinate them all.
Image

Piaranthus geminatus var. foetidus
Nothing special until the flowers open and then ya can't stop looking at it!
Image
Image

Plumeria
No idea what species or hybrid...but i like the color!
Image

Rebutia muscula
I haven't taken many pics of these..dunno why, as i swear they've all had flowers since March!
Image
Image

Stapelia variegata
(Orbea variegata)
Image

Stapelia flavopurpurea
Image
Image
Image

Turbinicarpus pseudomacrochele ssp. krainzianus v. minimus
Funny how these all work as a team. We have a dozen or more on the sales tables and when they bloom, they all bloom at the same time. Syncronized blooming?
Image
Image

Lophophora williamsii
How can something this beautiful be banned!

Darryl
Great plants and shots!
That Opuntia dillenii is a little late to the party, but she sure looks fine. Turned my head when I saw her.

Thanks guys!

lol...the dillenii has plenty of love to go 'round ;)
It sure is out of season...the pad was a cutting from the summer and it just sat there doing nothing. Then one day it got the greenlight and grew 3 new pads and popped out a flower. I'm not complaining :D

Thats a custom painted racing stripe ;) This is no motocross fox, this is a hotrod fox!

Ya, that 10-15F cooling off didn't last too long huh...back to the 90s!
