Etymology of Curtisia:
For William Curtis (1746–1799), nurseryman, entomologist, and founder of Curtis’s Botanical Magazine, first published in 1786 and still going today. He started his career as an apothecary but switched to botany and natural history. At the age of 25 he produced Instructions for Collecting and Preserving Insects; Particularly Moths and Butterflies. He was a demonstrator of plants and praefectus horti at the Chelsea Physic Garden from 1771 to 1777 and then established his own London Botanic Garden at Lambeth in 1779. He was the author of Flora Londinensis in six volumes, a work that was published over the period 1777–1798 and was devoted to urban nature.
Etymology of dentata:
From the Latin dentatus meaning 'toothed'. Each tooth is angled equally as compared with serrate in which the projections are angled more on one side than the other (forward pointing).
