Ancient classical name for a poisonous plant, Gk. loimos = a plague, pestilence. ‘These small weeds are acrid poisons’ (Bonder, Flora Capensis).

Stunted woody shrublet with annual shoots, to 15 cm. Leaves oblong to elliptic, margins revolute. Flowers in terminal and axillary clusters on erect peduncles, green and white. Feb.--Mar. Dry, rocky slopes, NW, KM (Namibia to Worcester, Little Karoo and Swartberg Mts).
