Short etymology:
Gk. memaikulon, a corruption of mimaikulon = name used by Dioscorides and by Pliny the Elder, fruit of Arbutus unedo. Linnaean name used by Dioscorides and Pliny the Elder for the fruit of the strawberry tree, ‘perhaps because the fruits of some species are edible’ (WPU Jackson).
