Etymology of Zannichellia:
For Giovanni Gerolamo Zannichelli (1662–1729), Italian botanist, physician and pharmacist with an interest in palaeontology and mineralogy. In 1686, he started a successful apothecary business in Venice. His Santa Fosca pill (1701), an effective laxative, still sold in 1950. He published Promptuarium Remediorum Chimicorum (a handbook of chemical medicines). After obtaining his medical degree (1702), he made many trips to explore the natural history around the Adriatic Sea, the mountains of Vicenza and Verona, and elsewhere, building an important natural history cabinet in Venice. His Istoria delle Piante che Nascono ne’ lidi Intorno a Venezia (History of the Plants … around Venice) was published by his son, posthumously, in 1735.
