Dictyocha (Dictyochophyceae)

Dictyocha speculum from Gulf of Maine USA. Skeleton-forming stage, identified by its hexagonal shape.

Dictyocha speculum is preferred over Distephanus speculum, although previously the two genera were recognized separately on the basis of rectangular (Dictyocha) vs. hexagonal (Distephanus) skeletons.
