Summary[edit]

Description

Tufted, reed-like grass, with 180 cm tall, erect stems that arise from short rhizomes and have very finely hairy nodes. Leaves are stiff and easily break off when dry. Usually found in open, damp and poorly drained areas (often with sodic or clay subsoils) or shallow waterways within grasslands and woodlands; most common in hilly granite country and on lighter soils. Native biodiversity.

Provides ground cover where drainage is poor. A coarse and wiry plant, it has little grazing value except when young and leafy.
