Seeds of three Aloe species: Aloe decurva (Mount Zembe, Manica province - upper row) Aloe sp. Ribaue (Ribaue District, Nampula province - middle row) and Aloe mawii (Mount Mitucue close to Cuamba, Niassa province - lower row). Note that the endemic with a very limited distribution (Aloe decurva, limited to one mountain top) has almost unwinged seeds. Also that Aloe mawii, with a very extense distribution range (Malawi, Northern Mozambique and Southern Tanzania) has very wide wings. The Ribaue Aloe has intermediate wings and is found on the mountains close to Ribaue, but/probably also in Muidumbe district, about 400 km to the NE). In the genus Aloe, where seeds are essentially distributed by wind, a wider seed wing means a larger geographical distribution.
