It took me a while to figure this rainforest species out because I did not at first take note that it was a climber. The leaves are trifoliate, which means that it is a compound leaf with 3 leaflets. At first I thought that this was a Sapindaceae because of the fruits which had an arillate seed (the little yellow appendage at the base of the black seed). However, I couldn’t get a proper match in the Rainforest Key.

Later it dawned on me to check up an obscure family called the Connaraceae, which is a botanical family that consists mainly of rainforest climbers and it dawned upon me what this species was. This reinforces the importance of making note of the lifeform of a plant when observing or photographing it.

Australia only has 2 members of this family.
