Halesia diptera, commonly known as two-winged silverbell or two-winged snowdrop tree, is a deciduous tree native to the southeastern United States. Here's a description of this species:

Size and Growth Habit: Two-winged silverbell is a medium-sized tree, typically reaching heights of 20 to 40 feet (6 to 12 meters) tall at maturity. It has a broadly pyramidal to rounded crown with spreading branches.

Leaves: The leaves of Halesia diptera are alternate, simple, and elliptical to ovate in shape, with serrated margins. They are typically 2 to 4 inches (5 to 10 centimeters) long and have a dark green color. In autumn, the leaves may turn yellow before falling.

Flowers: One of the most distinctive features of Halesia diptera is its showy, pendulous flowers, which bloom in spring. The flowers are bell-shaped, white, and fragrant, with four petals. They hang in clusters (racemes) from the branches, creating a stunning display.

Fruits: After flowering, Halesia diptera produces unique fruits known as drupes. These drupes are dark purple or black when ripe and are about 1 inch (2.5 centimeters) long. They have two prominent wings, giving them a distinctive appearance that resembles a two-winged seed capsule.

Bark: The bark of two-winged silverbell is smooth and grayish-brown when young, becoming rougher and more fissured with age.

Habitat and Distribution: Halesia diptera is typically found in moist, well-drained soils in lowland forests, along streams, and in bottomlands. It is native to the southeastern United States, including regions of Alabama, Georgia, Florida, and South Carolina.

Landscape Use: Due to its attractive flowers and elegant form, Halesia diptera is often cultivated as an ornamental tree in gardens and landscapes. It thrives in areas with mild climates and moist soil conditions.
