The 10″ Ficus Lyrata is a perfect indoor plant. Ficus Lyratas, or as it’s commonly called “fiddle leaf fig” plant, has large, broad, leathery leaves that resemble a violin or fiddle.
The Ficus Lyrata dark green, hard leaves are over a foot long and grow on woody stems. Native to Australia, Melanesia, and southern Asia, the Ficus Lyrata is one of the easiest ficus trees to care for.
A fiddle leaf fig – Ficus Lyrata is considered poisonous and should be kept away from pets and children. The sap of all ficus plants is very irritating, so use gloves when working with this plant.
• These plants prefer warm, humid climates similar to the weather in their native rain forests. Fiddle Leaf Fig- Ficus Lyrata trees do well in temperatures between 60°-80°f (15.6°- 26.7°c).
• The 10″ Ficus Lyrata needs bright, filtered light and soil evenly moist at all times (About 2-3 times per week)
• Avoid overwatering or leaving the plant sitting in water.
• Keep all types of ficus trees away from air conditioners, cold drafts, and heating vents. Intense cold or heat causes leaf drop.
• Keep the Ficus Lyrata soil evenly moist at all times. Do not overwater or leave the plant sitting in water.
• Excessive browning and dropping leaves may occur due to improper airflow and lack of humidity in the home. Adding a humidifier close by the plant or misting around it (NOT directly on the leaves) will help with moisture.
• Use an aerated potting soil that holds water but still drains quickly. Fiddle leaf fig – plants, like all ficus plants, like being root-bound in small pots.
• Fertilize your Ficus Lyrata bi-weekly in the spring and summer with a balanced plant food diluted to 1/2 the recommended strength. Too much fertilizer when the plant is not actively growing causes leaf tip burn.
• It can be small and used as a centerpiece in a table or large enough to be used as an indoor tree.
