Retzia capensis is a unique plant and is the only member of the genus. It is such a beautiful fiery plant – more investigation needed! It would certainly make for an interesting homeopathic medicine or flower essence. The upper zones of the leaves (rhythmic system) becomes infused with a fiery flowering principle and the fieriness continues into the flower, so much so that the tips of the petals are black-tipped as if burnt. It is rare to find black in a flower. The common name is Heuningblom (Honey Flower), as the flowers contain abundant nectar and are pollinated by the Orange-Breasted Sunbird (Anthobaphes violacea), also the only member of its genus. Note the wonderful concordance of their colouring.
So you managed to find the name. Did you bring back a specimen? Very pretty.
