Rhamnaceae

Cehrigiller

In 2002 there were few trees on the 75 000m2 of land: the local flocks of sheep and goats, and cows used to graze everyday.  Young juicy plants would be chomped up before they had time to grow stronger.

The key survivors were Jerusalem thorn and wild almond, both of which defend themselves well with horn-like spines.
