Helicteres isora L., Sp. Pl. 2: 963 (1753).

Description

Fruits of the East Indian screwtree are sold in the potpourri trade as “twisty pods.” Follicles are twisted and medium brown (in the native state), 3-3.5 cm long x 6-8 mm wide, but when bleached and/or dyed, the pods untwist and fall apart into two segments.
