📚 Overview
Description
Deciduous small trees or shrubs growing upto 3m in height. The branchlets are cylindric, rough and brown in color. Stipules are ovate-lanceolate, persistent, petiole is 1–2.5 cm, contains a pair of pinnae, which measures 8–13 cm, petiolules are ~1mm, leaflets are 7–9 pairs and obliquely lanceolate, 2–4 cm × 7–15 mm, midvein close to upper margin, covered with very soft hairs along the margin, the base is oblique with a blunt tip and mucronate. Heads are axillary and including filaments measure ~3cm in diameter, the peduncles are 1–3.5 cm. Calyx is cam-panulate ~2mm. Corolla is purplish with five lobes, the lobes are reflexed ~3mm, smooth and the tube measures 3.5–5 cm in length. There are numberous stamens which are the shade of a brilliant scarlet. The staminal tube is white ~6cm in length with the filaments being a deep red, mouth inside is a subulate appendix; the filaments are a deep red, ~ 2cm. The legume is dull brown, linear-oblanceolate, when ripe and reflexed the valves open from apex to base along suture, 6–11 cm × 5–13 mm. Seeds are five to six in number, oblong, brown, 7–10 x ~4mm. Flowering- Aug–Sept. Fruiting October to November.

Morphology
Trees, 8-20 m tall; branchlets glabrous, angulate. Leaves compound; stipules inconspicuous; pinnae 1-3 pairs, with a gland near base of petiole and between uppermost pinnae; petiolules ca. 3 mm; leaflets 1-6 pairs, lamina ca. 5-11 × 1.5-6 cm, elliptic, oblong, or obliquely obovate, attenuate to subrounded at base, acute at apex, acuminate, or obtuse, sometimes mucronate both surfaces glabrous or puberulent. Heads arranged in terminal or axillary panicles; calyx ca. 1.5-3 mm, campanulate; corolla ca. 6-7 mm, funnel-shaped; lobes lanceolate, ca. 4 mm; stamens numerous; tube 3-4 mm; ovary glabrous. Legume ca. 10-30 × 2-4.5 cm dehiscent, brownish, straight, ligulate. Seeds 4-9, ca. 8-9 mm in diam., brown, orbicular. (Singh, 2000).
