Abstract

Based on recent collections, we describe a new species of scaly tree fern, Cyathea giraldoi, from northern Colombia and discuss its ecology. The new species differs from putative close relatives by a character combination including a small size, often decumbent trunk, strongly arching fronds with drooping tips, nearly triangular lamina, thick scurf of matted arachnoid squamules, and frequent production of adventitious buds.
