Rabbit Ears is a beautiful vining shrub covered with very unusual red to dark orange two-lipped tubular flowers with brown markings resembling rabbit's head with ears. The flowers look like 1-2 inch hummingbirds with their wings swept back or, from the front, like rabbits ears.
To help establish your new Rabbit Ears Ruttya Fruticosa, fertilize sparingly at least 6 inches away from the base, tri-annually with a slow time release 15-5-10. Unfertilized they will tend to grow very slowly. Note: The heavy salts in cheaper fertilizers will damage the roots and possibly kill the plant.
Toxic to animals. Ruttya Fruticosa commonly known as rabbit ears plant or jammy mouth is native to the African continent. The name fruticosa translates to shrubby which is in line with the habit of the ruttya plant. It blooms during late spring and early summer and attracts birds , bees and butterflies.
