What can you do? All of us can do plenty of things, usually more than we think. Competence is accumulated at work, in hobbies, in everyday life, in free time, in voluntary work, abroad, at training and courses etc. It is accumulated everywhere and by everyone.
My experience is that recognising, expressing, and making skills visible is not the easiest thing to do. For me, it has required self-reflection and the development of self-knowledge and self-esteem. Recognising and using my skills has increased my perception of myself as a skillful person and has been meaningful in terms of participation, agency, and well-being. Accumulating skills and learning new things is also, in and of itself, enjoyable and motivating for me.
So what have I accumulated on my journey?
I have immersed myself in the mysteries of languages and utilised my language skills in different ways both in Finland and abroad. Working and studying abroad increased my confidence in my own ability to cope as well as developed my perspective-taking ability and adaptability. Teaching, customer service work, and audience development work have, among other things, enhanced my communication skills as well as my ability to interact smoothly with different kinds of people and to structure and share information in a comprehensible way.
Organising and coordinating different kinds of entities, both at work and in my free time, has developed my ability to manage large entities, my cooperation skills, and my self-leadership skills. Performing in different places when I played different instruments and sang in choirs increased my self-confidence and courage as well as improved my performance skills.
This week (2.-8.10) is the Reveal Your Skills week organised by SECLE, i.e. the Service Centre for Continuous Learning and Employment. The week’s goal is to inspire and encourage people and communities to recognise and reveal their skills. The purpose of the week is also to spark a conversation about the importance that recognising skills has for people and communities themselves and, more broadly, for the society as a whole. So #RevealYourSkills
📣 Important update! We wanted to reach out and share some news with you.
This week, we encountered a challenging situation where we had to make a difficult decision. We had to turn down three individuals who enrolled in our business analysis program for September. We understand that this might come as disappointing news, but please know that our intention is to always provide the best guidance and support.
After carefully evaluating their circumstances, we determined that these individuals don't require further training at this time. Instead, they would greatly benefit from focusing on enhancing their CV and LinkedIn profile, as well as positioning themselves in "open to work" mode.
You know that "open to work mode on LinkedIn? Yes that one"🙂
We genuinely care about your success and want to ensure that we offer the right advice rather than simply selling courses.
We believe that many people already possess the skills needed for a rewarding career in technology . It's not just about the number of certificates you have, but rather the experiences you've gained and the potential and attitude you bring.
When hiring managers assess candidates, their main concern is whether an individual can effectively solve real-world problems like X, Y, and Z.
Please understand that our intention is not to discourage you from pursuing certificates. In fact, we acknowledge the value of training and skill development. Our programs are designed to be hands-on and practical, catering to learners with various backgrounds and talents. We firmly believe that even someone without prior experience can have valuable skills acquired through education, personal projects, or life circumstances!
While we encourage continuous learning and acquiring new skills, we also believe in taking action and seizing opportunities when you're ready. Once you've developed the necessary skills for your desired field, it's time to embrace new challenges and embark on your professional journey. Our ultimate goal is to see you succeed and flourish in your chosen career path.
If you ever feel unsure or need guidance in taking that next step, our learning advisors are here to provide the support and assistance you need. We genuinely care about your growth and are committed to being there for you throughout your journey.
And if you need assistance in making that leap, don't hesitate to speak with our learning advisors 👉https://zurl.co/yjaT#CareerAdvice#TechSkills#TakeTheLeap#lacroixinstitute#learntechnologywithlacroix#drelliottsimo
