Plants shrubs or herbs, usually covered with tubercle-based hairs. Leaves even-pinnate. Inflorescences axillary orflowers solitary. Calyces 2-lipped; corollas usually yellow lined with purple; stamens usually all united by their filaments. Pods narrow, compressed, straight or curved, breaking transversely into 1-28 1-seeded, indehiscent, round to rectangular units.
Aeschynomene is a genus of about 150 species, about half of which are native to Africa. One species, Aeschynomene indica, grows in Somaliland, it plus two others grow in Somalia.
