Plants annual or perennial herbs. Leaves alternate. Inflorescences terminal, loose corymbose clusters of capitula. Capitula, disciform; phyllaries in 3-4 series, subequal; receptacles without bracts. Flowers yellow; outer flowers female, filiform; inner flowers bisexual, fewer than the outer, lobes glandular; anthers short-tailed; style branches truncate. Achenes usually glabrous, with mucilaginous hairs; pappuses of barbellate bristles, their bases with patent cilia.
Pseudognaphalium includes about 105-110 species (POWO 2022). Most are native to South and Central America, but several are native to Africa and Asia. One species, Pseudognaphalium luteoalbum, is native to Somaliland. No species are known from Somalia.
