Following a series of intensive employee training courses, Penny Hydraulics are pleased to announce full membership of the Lifting Equipment Engineers Association, LEEA.
The LEEA is a global trade association for all lifting equipment industry stakeholders. Established in 1944, the associations’ objectives are the elimination of fatalities, accidents, and injuries in the workplace. Their methodology is to educate, influence, and enable best practice across multiple sectors.
The work of the LEEA influences all aspects of the lifting equipment supply chain and its end users, from equipment design and manufacture to servicing and use. Penny Hydraulics are invested in almost every facet of the lifting equipment lifecycle.

LEEA membership training covers all aspects of mechanical lifting aids, including design, materials science, risk control, and lifting legislation. “A lot of hard work has gone into achieving LEEA membership,” says Simon Pykett, General Manager of Penny Nuclear. “The training courses have been challenging but it only goes to strengthen our knowledge, which helps us to deliver the very best products and service for our customers. The range of courses is also excellent and so training can be aimed at specific groups of employees at all levels.”
Lifting equipment supports safe working practices in all kinds of industries. The main purpose is to protect workers from injury. Working at height and manual handling are two of the key risks that can be eliminated by the use of appropriate lifting equipment. The HSE reported that the majority of fatalities in the workplace during 2021 were caused by a fall from height.
LEEA membership forms a key part of Penny Hydraulics’ own objective, to improve standards surrounding the design and use of lifting equipment and understanding the issues customers face. “LEEA membership is a great way to tell both existing and prospective customers that as a business and as individual employees, we take our responsibilities very seriously,” says Ed Penny, Raising and Lowering Systems General Manager. “The Penny Hydraulics’ ethos is very much aligned with that of the LEEA; to educate, influence, and enable best practice, every day.”
