Characteristics

Cotyledons
Boomerang-shaped with slightly sinuate leaf margins. Stalked. The surface is covered with stiff hairs. Length approx. 20-30 mm.

Long and slender with slightly sinuate leaf margins. Unstalked. The surface is covered with stiff hairs. Length approx. 30-40 mm.

Mature plant
Common Fiddleneck is a medium-sized plant with a 20-50 cm high, erect stem. The plant is especially known by its stiff to almost bristly hairs on stems and leaves. The diameter of the flower is approx. 5-7 mm.

Seed
Beetle- or slipper-shaped with drop-shaped outline. The surface is sinuately nodose and granular.

Propagation and dispersal
Only through seeds.

Habit
Summer and winter annual.

Importance

The species is sometimes found in spring-sown crops in most of Jutland. Common Fiddleneck is a relatively new weed species in Denmark where it is sPeading quickly.
