A perennial herb up to 1 m. high with slender 4-gonous scabrid stem and branches; bristles sparse, short, appressed. Leaf-lamina 5·5–12·5 x 2–5·4 cm., ovate to oblong-ovate or lanceolate, acute at apex, round or subcordate at base, serrulate-setose, membranous, light green above, pale green beneath, sparsely setose on both faces, the bristles short and subappressed, longitudinally 3–5(7)-nerved, the nerves slender, impressed above, prominent below, the transverse nerves only slightly visible below; petiole 1–4(6) cm. long, slender, strigillose. Flowers sessile in terminal lax panicles; bracts shorter than the receptacle, ovate, acute, thin, pale green, dorsally setose, ciliate, caducous. Receptacle c. 4 x 2·5 mm., cylindric, sparsely setulose, the bristles short, appressed, scabrid. Sepals 3 x 1·5 mm., lanceolate, acute, setose, caducous; intersepalar segments short, setose at the top, caducous. Petals 7–8 mm. long, pink. Anthers of the longer stamens c. 4 mm. long; pedoconnective c. 3 mm. long with a c. 1 mm. long appendage; anthers of the shorter stamens c. 4 mm. long; pedoconnective 0·75 mm. long with a very short appendage. Fructiferous receptacle 6–8 x 4–5 mm., ovoid, rather longer than the capsule, glabrescent, the longitudinal and transverse nerves distinctly raised. Capsule subspherical, very sparsely setose at the apex, the bristles weak and short. Seeds c. 1 mm. long, indistinctly tuberculate.
