Sometimes annual but probably often perennial much-branched prostrate or perhaps sometimes suberect subshrubby herb 30–40(?) cm. long; stems subangular, bifariously sparsely puberulous in narrow longitudinal grooves, otherwise glabrous. Leaves 0.5–6 cm. x 1–3 mm., linear to narrowly linear-oblanceolate, acute at the apex, attenuate at the base, probably subsucculent in life, rigid, glabrous; stipule sheath 2 mm. long with 2 angular lines of pubescence and pubescent margin with 5 pubescent setae 3 mm. long. Flowers in congested clusters c. 1 cm. wide at many if not most nodes, the upper 3 clusters condensed into a head or at least more approximate, the others well spaced. Calyx tube 3 mm. long, the upper half pilose with erect hairs; lobes 2 (sometimes more?) 1.5–2.5 to 3.5 (in fruit) mm. long, narrowly oblong, ciliate. Corolla white or greenish white; tube 3.5 mm. long, funnel-shaped, hairy within; lobes 3–4 x c. 1.2 mm., triangular-lanceolate, pubescent at apex. Filaments exserted about 3 mm.; style exserted 4 mm., stigmatic club capitate-bilobed. Fruits 4.5 x 2.2 mm., oblong-ovoid, the valves opening widely. Seeds dark purplish brown, 2.5 x 1.3 mm., compressed oblong-ovoid, very slightly widest at one end, with a fairly narrow groove beneath widened at one end containing some rhaphides and with a very reduced white proximal elaiosome.
