Small tufted herb. leaves subfiliform, 1.5–2 cm. long, 0.3–0.6 mm. wide, ± glabrous. Scapes several to many, very slender, 5–15 cm. high, 3-ribbed, shortly pilose with patent glandular hairs and some pointed hairs; sheaths ± as long as the leaves, thinly pilose with glandular and pointed hairs, the limb straight, 1/4–1/3 as long as the lowertubular portion. Capitulum white, appearing glabrous, 3.5–4.5 mm. diameter; involucral bracts slightly longer than the flowers, pallid, acute to narrowly obtuse, the outermost ovate, 1.4 mm. long, the inner elliptic, 2 mm. long, the innermost with a few short marginal cilia; receptacle villous. Flowers 1.0–1.4 mm. long; female sepals narrowly lanceolate-oblong, acute to subacute, glabrous on the back, pectinate-ciliate on the margins, the male sepals similar; style with 3 filiform stigmas but no alternating swollen-tipped appendages. Seeds ellipsoid, 0.3–0.4 mm. long, longitudinally white-striate.
