A small shrub 1.2–4.5 m. tall, often with swollen pithy floating stems similar to A. elaphroxylon but without spines. Stems densely hispid with golden-brown tubercular-based glandular hairs. Leaves 16–32(–40)-foliolate; leaflets oblong, 1–3.5 cm. long, 0.4–1.2 cm. wide, rounded and mucronulate at the apex, obliquely rounded at the base, ciliate on margins and main nerve beneath, ciliate-serrulate towards the apex, otherwise glabrous; petiole and rhachis together 7–14(–22) cm. long; petiolules 1 mm. long; stipules ovate or elliptic, 8–10 mm. long, 3.2–5 mm. wide, acute, not appendaged, densely ciliate, soon falling. Inflorescences axillary, 3–7-flowered; rhachis 2–9 cm. long; peduncle 2.5–9 cm. long; pedicels 1–2 cm. long, glandular hairy; bracts ovate, 0.8–1.1 cm. long, 4.5–9 mm. wide, often 2–3-fid, hairy, soon falling; bracteoles lanceolate, 6–8.5 mm. long, 1.5–2.5 mm. wide, soon falling. Calyx hairy, 2-lipped, the lips oblong, 1.3–1.8 cm. long, 0.6–1.2 cm. wide, one emarginate, the other 3-lobed. Standard orange-yellow, rounded, 2–4 cm. long, 2.5–3 cm. wide, ciliolate at the apex; wings orange-yellow; keel paler orange-yellow, the petals laciniate. Pods oblong-elliptic, sessile, straight, 3–5 cm. long, beaked, 6–7-jointed, the suture straight or smoothly curved, not constricted between the articles; articles irregularly oblong, 0.3–1.2 cm. long, 1.1–1.7(–1.9) cm. wide, compressed, hispid with yellow tubercular-based hairs, venulose.
