Plants 2.4–7.5 m. tall; bark flaking; branches spreading, at first sparsely stellate-tomentose, later glabrous, purplish-grey-brown, the petiole bases prominent and persistent. Leaf-blades obovate, 4–21 (–24) cm. long, 1.8–10.8 cm. wide, mostly acuminate at the apex, narrowed to and then rounded or cordate at the base, thin, sparsely stellate-pubescent above, at least on the nerves, or sometimes glabrous, more densely pubescent or glabrescent beneath; very young leaves often velvety; petioles 3–9 mm. long, stellate-tomentose. Pedicels ± 5–8 mm. long, covered with ferruginous stellate hairs; bracts 5–8 mm. long, 4–10 mm. wide, very deciduous; bracteoles rounded–ovate, 4 mm. long, 4 mm. wide, glabrous, inside, densely stellate-tomentose outside, deciduous. Sepals triangular or rounded-ovate, 5–9 mm. long, 6–7.5 mm. wide, acute or apiculate at the apex, velvety with stellate hairs outside, greyish tomentose inside. Petals brownish-yellow, triangular-ovate, (0.6–)0.8–1(–1.2) cm. long, 6–8 mm. wide, obtuse or apiculate, rather thick and fleshy, shortly pubescent with grey stellate hairs outside, practically glabrous inside. Stamens 1.5–3 mm. long. Fruiting pedicels 1.5 cm. long; fruit green at first, then yellowish, 3.7–5.3 cm. long, 2.5–4 cm. wide, mostly obtuse or sometimes apiculate, 10–17-seeded, stellate-tomentose when very young, later sparsely so, somewhat rugulose; stipe very short and thick, ± 6 mm. long.
