    Description
    Global description
     
    Desmodium uncinatum is a perennial, herbaceous, erect plant. The stem is round or slightly angular, covered with hooked hairs. Stipules are quickly deciduous. The leaves are alternate, compound, trifoliate, petiolated with an oval to suborbicular terminal leaflet, 3 to 6 cm long and 1.5 to 2.5 cm wide. The upper surface has a shiny silver spot surrounded by a glossy dark green aureole. It is covered with tuberculate and hooked hairs. The underside is paler with glandular hairs. The margin is ciliated. The flowers are arranged in terminal and axillary racemes. They are grouped by two or more at the insertion points. Pink corolla, measures 10 mm long. The fruit is a sickle pod of 4 to 7 articles, with top edge not scalloped and clearly indented bottom edge, covered with hooked hairs.

    The first leaves are alternate, simple, stalked, with orbicular lamina.
     
    General habit
     
    Herbaceous to sarmentose erect plant, slightly radicant at the nodes f the base of the stems.

    Underground system
     
    The plant has a taproot system.
     
    Stem
     
    Stem is round to slightly angular, full, branched. It is covered with hooked hairs.
     
    Leaf
     
    Leaves alternate, compound trifoliate carried by a petiole of 2.5 to 5 cm. At the base there are brown stipules, 8 to 10 mm long, quickly deciduous. Petiolules measures 5 to 15 mm. The stipels measure 2 to 6 mm. Leaflets are ovate to suborbicular. The terminal leaflet up to 6 cm long and 2.5 cm wide. The base is rounded and the top is wedged. . The dark green upper side is marked by a shiny silver spot often surrounded by a glossy dark green aureole. It is covered with glandular and hooked hairs. The lower face is pale, covered with glandular hairs. The margin is ciliated.
     
    Inflorescence
     
    Inflorescence in axillary or terminal racemes. Bracts 4.5 to 8 mm long.
     
    Flower
     
    Papilionaceous flowers inserted by 2 or more along the raceme. Calyx in puberulous and hispid tube with a bifid upper lobe, 4 mm long and a trifid lower lobe, middle tine5 mm long and lateral tine3 to 4 mm long. The corolla is pink, 10 mm long.
     
    Fruit
     
    The fruit is a sickle pod, with the end in rostrum comprising of 4 to 7 article, 4 to 5 mm long and 3 mm wide. It is covered with hooked hairs.
     
    Seed
     
    The seed is oval to triangular, 3x2x1 mm, of olive green color.
