The inflorescence is narrow, linear, 3 to 10 cm long, and consists of 5 to 12 racemes, 1 to 2 cm long, erect and applied against the axis. Madagascar: B. eruciformis is a fairly common species in the sub-humid and semi-arid area (West and South-West) of Madagascar. It invades especially lowland areas which have relatively fertile soil (silty alluvium, vertisols, and ferruginous hydromorphic soils).
Mauritius: Plant became a weed of sugarcane fields, it is usually present in the dryer and lower part of the South and Southwest of the island ("Case Noyale" and "Baie du Cap").
Reunion: Species very rare, subservient to the dry area of the island.
Seychelles: absent.

Local harmfulness
Comoros: Brachiaria eruciformis is absent.
Madagascar: B. eruciformis is a ruderal species and a fairly common weed common in dry crops, it infests rainy cultures in lowland area; its abundance depends on the richness of the soil, soil moisture (rainfall or irrigation) and the degree of intensity of cultivation. It can be locally very abundant in the more or less intensive crops on silty alluvium, vertisols, and ferruginous hydromorphic soils (cotton, cassava, peas Cape).
Mauritius: Harmful species for young sugar cane if it is not controlled properly.
Reunion: Weed very infrequent in sugarcane, and does not pose any particular problem for now.
Seychelles: Absent.
