Global description
Indigofera dendroides is a small, subtle bush whose organs are covered with fine navicular hairs, appressed and fixed by their middle. The leaves are imparipinnate, with 11 to 31 small leaflets oblanceolate and mucronate at the apex. The inflorescences are axillary, borne by a long peduncle and comprising more than 12 flowers. These are pink with a pubescent standard. The fruits are linear pods erect or spread 3 to 4 cm long, with numerous polygonal seeds with brown tegument marked by small craters.
Cotyledons
The cotyledons are reniform. They are borne by a short petiole of 1 mm. The blade is 3-4 mm long and 2 mm wide.
First leaves
The first leaves are alternate and simple. They are elliptical in shape and carried by a short petiole. The third leaf is trifoliate, the following are imparipinnate with 5 to 11 leaflets. They are long petiolate. At the base of the petiole are 2 filiform stipules 2 mm long. The leaflets are elliptical with a short mucron at the top. The stems, petioles and leaflets are covered with navicular hairs set in the middle and appressed.
General habit
Indigofera dendroides is erect. The plant presents itself in a small bush abundantly branched, subwoody at the base. It is 30 to 75 cm high.
Underground system
The root is a taproot.
Stem
The stem is cylindrical and solid. It is slender and covered with navicular hairs set in the middle and appressed.
Leaf
The leaves are alternate and imparipinnate. They are subsessile. At the base of the petiole are 2 filiform stipules 4 mm long. The rachis extends after the last pair of leaflets before wearing the terminal leaflet. The leaves have 11 to 31 well-opposite leaflets, borne by petiolules 1 mm long. The leaflets are elliptical to oblanceolate in shape. The base is in acute corner and the summit is rounded, mucronate. They are 7 to 15 mm long and 3 to 5 mm wide. Both sides are covered with fine navicular hairs appressed and fixed by their middle.
Inflorescence
The flowers are assembled in lateral racemes located at the axils of the leaves. Racemes are loose, usually with more than 12 flowers and 5 to 15 cm long. The peduncle is long, it measures more than a quarter of the length of the floriferous axis.
Flower
The flowers bloom one after the other. They are borne by a pedicel 2 mm long. The calyx is formed of 5 linear teeth welded to the base. It is 2 mm long, less than half the tube length of the stamens. The corolla is pink, it is 12 mm long. The outer surface of the upper petal (standard) is pubescent. The anther stalk of 9 stamens are welded, the tenth is free.
Fruit
The fruits are almost cylindrical pods when ripe. They are linear, 3 to 4 cm long and 3 mm wide. They are erect or spread out but never folded down. The tip forms a short point extending the dorsal suture line. The pod is covered with appressed navicular hairs, fixed by their middle. The pods are dehiscent at maturity. They contain 15 to 25 seeds.
Seed
The seeds are polygonal, 2 mm long and 1.5 mm wide. They are dark brown in color. The tegument is smooth, carved with small craters.
