                Ecology

Algeria: Aster squamatus is a common species in Algerian summer vegetable crops and strip-irrigated citrus groves, as well as along irrigation canals. This species has a preference for moist, nitrogen-rich clay and silty-clay soils, often halomorphic (salt tolerant).
Brazil: Present in the south of the country, not very demanding in terms of type of soil.
France - Camargue: Aster squamatus is a halophilous species that grows in damp fallow land and on the edges of rice fields.
West Indies: Aster squamatus is an uncommon exotic species, naturalized on wasteland with more or less salty soil near Rivière Salée in Guadeloupe.

                      Local harmfulness

Algeria: Aster squamatus is a minor "weed". Uncommon and not very abundant, it does not generally constitute a nuisance for the crop. Aster squamatus can form very dense populations. Fragile wetland biotopes in the Mediterranean region, such as reedbeds and temporary ponds, are potentially threatened by this exotic species.
Brazil: Aster squamatus is an invasive species in pastures and fallow land, where it can form dense populations.
France - Camargue: Aster squamatus is present in rice fields but does not pose a major problem as it is only found at the edges of fields.
West Indies: Aster squamatus is only recorded locally in Guadeloupe and is not observed as a weed in cultivated plots.
