Morphology Stem
Very similar to C. abyssinica but often persistently hairy, stems more robust
Morphology General
Leaves often narrower, 4–7.5 x 1.1–2.2 cm, male flowers with 10–33 disc-glands, fruiting pedicels not over 7 mm long, fruits sometimes densely hairy (glabrous in Flora area).
Distribution
N2, 3; subsp. robusta (Pax) M. Gilbert in East Africa.
Ecology
Altitude range 1700–2100 m.
Note
The Somali collections belong to subsp. lanceolata with male flowers having (19–)20–33 disc-glands, but have a very distinctive appearance due to the unusually robust stems and thick indumentum combined with glabrous capsules. In subsp. robusta the male flowers normally have only 10(–20) disc glands.
