Morphology General Habit
Straggling herb with several to many stems 7.5–35 cm. tall from a slender root, sometimes forming clumps; stems decumbent at the base but with erect flowering shoots, covered with usually dense short spreading pubescence or less often glabrous or with coarser hairs; internodes mostly short, giving a compact appearance to the plant; whole plant said to smell of coumarin.
Morphology Leaves
Leaves and stipules in whorls of (7–)8(–9); blades linear, 0.3–1.5 cm. long, 0.5–1.5(–2.5) mm. wide, attenuate at the apex into a distinct ± straight filiform acumen, usually ± shiny above, glabrous or with a few stiff hairs near the inrolled margins but without prickles.
Morphology Reproductive morphology Inflorescences
Inflorescences dense, the numerous cymes packed along the length of the flowering shoots, sweet-smelling, scarcely if at all exceeding the leaves, 3–9 mm. long; pedicels 1–4 mm. long.
Morphology Reproductive morphology Flowers Calyx
Calyx-tube 0.4–0.85 mm. in diameter, glabrous.
Morphology Reproductive morphology Flowers Corolla
Corolla dull pale yellow to bright yellow; tube 0.3–0.6 mm. long; lobes ovate-triangular, 1.3–2 mm. long, 0.75–1.2 mm. wide, acute.
Morphology Reproductive morphology Fruits
Fruit glabrous.
