Distribution
N1 widespread from the Arabian Pensinsula, Eritrea, Ethiopia and East Africa southwards to Zimbabwe and westwards to Cameroon.
Ecology
Altitude range 1500–1700 m.

Lanambar (Somali)
Note
A very variable species, with the Somali form matching well the type from N Yemen and plants from Harar Region in Ethiopia. Further south, plants are usually larger in all their parts. Var. pubescens (N.E. Br.) S. Carter occurs from Nigeria eastwards to East Africa and just south of the Tanzanian border, and var. velutina N.E. Br. occurs in East Africa, Malawi and Zimbabwe.
