The native range of this subspecies is Kenya to S. Tropical Africa. It is a tree and grows primarily in the seasonally dry tropical biome.

Morphology General Habit
Tree up to 10 (13) m. tall; bark smooth, grey, fluted; young stems with a waxy bloom, strigose-pilose.

Leaves pinnate, sparsely strigose-pilose or glabrous; petiole up to 7 cm. long, slender; leaflets 2–4-jugate, membranous, up to 8–5 × 3 cm., lanceolate to oblong-lanceolate, apex acuminate, margin crenate-serrate, base broadly cuneate, glabrous; petiolules up to 2 mm. long.
