Banksia splendida (Dryandra speciosa)

This plant was originally named Dryandra speciosa, but now that all the dryandras have been put into Banksia it has been renamed as Banksia splendida. The names “spendida” and “speciosa” (meaning “splendid” and “showy”) are a little ironic, since it is a small shrub whose flowers tend to point downward, but it is a wonderful plant nonetheless. It has the common name of “shaggy dryandra”, which suits it well. From Western Australia.
